A public hearing for an apartment building planned for the site of a historic theater in Great Neck Estates has been pushed back again.

The application was scheduled to be heard in early January, but has been postponed to Feb. 8. Over the past year, the village board has repeatedly set public hearing dates, only to adjourn them.

The applicant, First Playhouse of Great Neck Corp., is looking to raze the First Playhouse Theater and replace it with a 20-unit apartment building. The theater was built in 1925 and is located at the intersection of Maple Drive and Middle Neck Road.

The applicant’s attorney, William Bonesso, of Uniondale, said in an email that the hearing was delayed in order to allow sufficient time for the Nassau County Department of Public Works to review materials.

In June 2015, Bonesso told Newsday that public works officials wanted to weigh in on the proposal to cut off access to Middle Neck Road from Maple Avenue while construction was underway.
