Great Neck Estates is redrafting a law that would regulate Airbnb rentals in the village, officials said.

Since April, the village board has been reviewing a proposed law that would ban short term rentals less than 60 days. At Monday’s continued public hearing, the board took no action.

The board had previously concluded that the number of short-term rentals was on the rise, which threatened both the residential character and quality of life in Great Neck Estates.

Last year, there were about 1,400 Airbnb hosts in Nassau and Suffolk counties, with guests typically staying three to four nights, at an average of $254 per night, according to Airbnb representatives.

There is no timeline on when Great Neck Estates’ new law will be enacted, or what revisions will be made in the final draft. Village officials could not be reached for comment.
