Great Neck Plaza will apply for grant to fix street, curbs

Village trustees in Great Neck Plaza voted unanimously 5-0 Wednesday night to submit an application for Nassau County’s Community Development Block Grant program. 

Mayor Jean Celender said the village has been fortunate to win money from the program for the past 20 years. Last year, the village used grant funds to repair the street and curbs on Maple Drive. 

This year, Great Neck Plaza wants to use the grant for repairing Bond Street and Hill Park Avenue, Celender said. 

Now in its 43rd year, the grant program is offered by the county’s housing and community development office. The county gets the funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. 

Great Neck Plaza joins other North Hempstead-area municipalities which are looking to apply to the program. The application deadline is April 1.
