Gunfire at Hempstead McDonald's leads to arrest
A 20-year-old Freeport man was arrested Saturday night after police heard gunshots coming from the parking lot of a McDonald's fast-food restaurant in Hempstead and spotted a car drive away at a high speed.
Police said that at about 8 p.m., a Hempstead Village police officer heard the shots coming from the parking lot of the McDonald's at 340 Peninsula Bvd. When the officer pulled into the parking lot, police said, he saw a 2001 Jeep with its lights off drive away at a high speed.
As the officer followed the car, police said, it slowed down and a man got out and fled on foot. He was not identified.
The Jeep was stopped soon after and the driver was arrested without incident. He was identified as Keith Stanley of 46 East Ave. He was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment and was to be arraigned Sunday in First District Court in Hempstead.
Police said that the windows and a sign at the McDonald's were damaged.
