A man armed with a handgun ordered a clerk to open the register at a 7-Eleven store in Valley Stream Sunday evening, took the cash and fled, according to police.

Nassau County police said the store on East Sunrise Highway was robbed at 6:27 p.m.

They said the robber, wearing blue jeans, a long-sleeved grey shirt and a black hat walked into the 7-Eleven, displayed the gun and demanded cash. The clerk opened the register, police said. The robber took a handful and fled.

Police are asking anyone with information call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential, police said.
