Gunman steals $10,000, pit bull pup from home
A gunman pushed a Baldwin resident from behind as he was entering his home Friday morning, police said, and robbed the house of $10,000 cash, valuables and a pet puppy.
The 22-year-old victim was at the back door of his home on Washington Place at 11:40 a.m., Nassau police said, when he was shoved inside by a man about 6-foot-2 who pointed a handgun at him.
When the man, about 18- to 25-years-old, started to search the house, the victim was able to run out the back door and hide in bushes, police said.
From the bushes, he saw the robber remove a 19-inch TV, video camera, jewelry, a laptop computer, $10,000 from a safe, and a 2-month-old pit bull, police said.
The gunman then drove off heading north on Eastern Parkway in an older model gray Toyota Camry, police said.
No shots were fired and the victim was not injured, police said.
Detectives asked that anyone with information about the robbery call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
