Harley-Davidson New Hyde Park dealership proposal stalls
An application for a Harley-Davidson dealership has officially stalled, with no date set for the next public hearing, village officials confirmed.
After an initial public hearing in October, a continuation slated for Tuesday evening was postponed to allow for more time for expert testimony.
At October’s meeting, residents voiced concerns about traffic, quality of life, and noise. The applicant, Amir Jarrah of Life Long Cycles Inc., agreed to consult sound, real estate, and traffic experts for presentation at Tuesday’s hearing.
The village also hired its own experts, at cost to Jarrah. In late October, the board of trustees unanimously passed an ordinance requiring Jarrah to submit a $10,000 deposit to cover fees for this service.
Mayor Robert Lofaro said Tuesday that the applicant had not yet sent a deposit for the planned showroom and repair facility at 1324 Jericho Tpke.
According to the applicant’s architect, John Notaro, of Glen Head, the dealership would be a roughly 16,000 square feet, with a 27-foot, two-story building. Plans call for an 8,000-square-foot ground floor showroom, a 6,200-square-foot repair shop in the basement, and a 1,800 square feet office space on the second floor.
Notaro said consultants had been selected and that the applicant is waiting on their proposals. Once contracts have been finalized, the applicant will submit the required deposit, Notaro said, adding that he didn’t anticipate the next public hearing to take place “until well into the next year.”
Lofaro said the applicant will propose a date for the next public hearing, adding that he’s unsure if this will take place in January.
