Taxis in Oyster Bay would be required to carry spare tires and other equipment under a proposal before the town board.

The town board last week unanimously voted to hold a public hearing at 10 a.m. Nov. 10 on the proposal. The hearing will be at Town Hall East.

The proposed amendment to the town code would require a properly inflated spare tire, along with tools for changing tires, unless the cab has active towing and road service.

The measure also would require each taxi to carry three operable safety flares, a fully operable fire extinguisher that is immediately accessible, and a radio transmitter and receiver capable of two-way communication with dispatchers.
