A 40-year-old man who drove onto the wrong side of a Hempstead roadway Sunday morning and crashed into an oncoming car has died, police said.

The man was driving north on Henry Street around Albemarle Avenue in his Nissan Sentra when he crossed the roadway’s double line and crashed into a southbound Hyundai Elantra driven by a 27-year-old woman at 5:20 a.m., Nassau County police said in a statement.

The Hempstead Fire Department extracted the man from his car and took him to a hospital, where he died, police said. The woman was also taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

An investigation is ongoing.
