Hempstead homicide victim identified
The Nassau County Police Department identified the man who was shot to death on Friday in Hempstead as Jonnie Carroll III.
Police officers responding to a 911 call of shots fired early Friday found Carroll, 24, of Hempstead, lying in the street. He died moments later..
Nassau County police said they are searching for a suspect.
The shooting occurred near the intersection of Ingraham Street and Peters Avenue at 12:50 a.m. Hempstead police handled the initial 911 call.
It was not clear how many shots were fired -- or how many struck the victim, police said.
Police are asking anyone with information regarding the homicide to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
