Hempstead hosts collection drive for Harvey victims

The Village of Hempstead is hosting a collection drive for Hurricane Harvey victims on Tuesday, according to a news release.
The drive is in partnership with the Salvation Army, the release said.
Long Islanders can drop off nonperishable goods and new or gently used clothing at Village Hall, Kennedy Memorial Park or Brierley Park from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., the release said.

Give cash
- Texting HARVEY to 90999 will send a $10 donation to the American Red Cross, http://www.redcross.org/
- The United Way Flood Relief Fund is taking donations by texting UWFLOOD to 41444 and at https://www.unitedwayhouston.org/flood/flood-donation
- The Salvation Army is accepting donations at 800-SAL-ARMY and http://www.salvationarmyusa.org/
- Catholic Charities USA is also accepting funds via its website, https://catholiccharitiesusa.org/
Donate blood
Texas blood banks are searching for donations to help victims. Schedule a donation on Long Island at New York Blood Center, which has locations in Ronkonkoma, Lake Success, Massapequa, Melville, Port Jefferson Station and Rockville Centre. http://nybloodcenter.org/
Don’t forget the animals
Austin Pets Alive! in Texas, which said the process to take in animals lost or hurt in Harvey is expected to cost more than $20,000, is accepting financial donations, volunteers and pet supplies. https://www.austinpetsalive.org/
