Officials: Fire damages Hempstead home
A midmorning fire damaged a home in Hempstead on Thursday, officials said.
Photos from the scene show the home on Stewart Avenue still smoldering, two fire department bucket ladders hovering over the house — one on either side.
Hempstead police responded to the scene, as did firefighters from the Hempstead fire department.
Police said the scene was active and declined to comment.
