Hempstead jewelry store workers foil robbery
A jewelry store robbery in Hempstead was thwarted Tuesday afternoon when three store employees refused to comply with the demands of two armed robbers -- and, police said, the two suspects fled.
Nassau County police are searching for the two suspects, who they said attempted to rob Gold Town Jewelers on Main Street at 3:50 p.m.
Police said the two, armed with a handgun, entered the store, approached the employees and demanded cash.
But the trio of employees "refused to comply," police said, and the suspects ran from the scene empty-handed. There were no customers in the store.
No one was injured.
Police said the suspects are in their 20s. One was thin and wore a black baseball cap, black T-shirt, jeans and carried a handgun. The other, police said, was about 5-foot-5 and wore a gray and red shirt.
Police ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
