Hempstead man accused of defrauding 2 women in lottery scam
A Hempstead cashier was arrested Monday and charged with grand larceny in a lottery scam, according to Nassau County police.
Jacques Hirsch, 26, of 64 Rhodes Ave., and a partner, who hasn't been arrested yet, duped two female victims from Florida and South Carolina into believing they had won the lottery, police said.
The victims, who were tricked into believing they had to pay fees to receive the winnings, wired $1,000 and $1,800 in separate transactions through MoneyGram to a Walmart, 1220 Old Country Rd., Westbury, police said. Hirsch, a cashier at the Walmart, retrieved the cash, authorities said.
The incidents occurred June 16 and June 18, police said. Hirsch has been charged with two counts of fourth-degree grand larceny and first-degree defraud.
He is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead.
