Hempstead man dies after gas station shooting
A Roosevelt teenager died early Thursday, eight hours after he was shot while sitting in a car at a Hempstead gas station, Nassau police said.
James McClenic, 19, was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow after he sustained a gunshot wound to the throat, police said. He was pronounced dead at 2:20 a.m.
McClenic was sitting in a car with two others at 6:20 p.m. Wednesday at Citgo Gas, 711 Fulton Ave., when a man approached and fired a weapon, hitting the victim, police said.
The incident was initially characterized as a robbery and police had said the victim was an attendant.
Detectives urge anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will be kept anonymous.
