Hempstead man facing robbery charge
A Hempstead man was arrested on charges of attempted robbery and drug and weapons possession after he and another man pulled a gun on a man Sunday in Hempstead, Nassau County police said.
A 28-year-old man was talking on his cell phone on Peters Avenue at about 7:48 p.m. when he was approached by two men, police said. The two pointed a gun at the man and demanded his cell phone, police said.
The man walked away and dialed 911, police said.
Police responding to the scene said they saw one man fitting the description of one suspect and eventually arrested him, according to a release.
Clyde M. Thompson, 31, of 11 Delaware Place, also had a controlled substance, police said.
A second suspect fled the scene, police said.
Thompson is charged with attempted robbery, possession of a weapon, possession of stolen property and possession of a controlled substance. He was scheduled to be arraigned Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.
