A man was struck and killed by a vehicle as he tried to walk across Jerusalem Avenue in Hempstead late Tuesday, Nassau County police said.

Salvador Duran, 50, of Hempstead, was attempting to cross north on Jerusalem near Florence Avenue when he was hit at 11:50 p.m. by a 1998 Dodge Durango, according to a report by the Third Squad.

Police did not identify the driver of the Durango, which was traveling east on Jerusalem, according to the report.

Duran was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, where he was pronounced dead at 12:40 a.m., police said.

Police said in a news release that no criminality was involved.
