Hempstead man struck, killed on Peninsula Boulevard

A Hempstead man was killed when a U.S. Postal Service truck struck the bicycle he was riding along Peninsula Boulevard in West Hempstead before dawn Saturday, Nassau police said.
Police identified the man as Visitacion Gutierrez-Ramirez, 50. Relatives of Gutierrez-Ramirez could not immediately be reached Saturday.
The crash happened at 5:05 a.m. when the large truck, going south in the left lane on Peninsula Boulevard near the Southern State Parkway, hit Gutierrez-Ramirez in the roadway, police department spokeswoman Maureen Roach said.
Roach said that no tickets or criminal charges were expected to be filed in the case. She said detectives were investigating the bicyclist's destination.
