Hempstead teen charged with attempted murder
A Hempstead teenager was arrested Wednesday, charged with second-degree attempted murder in the shooting of a man in Lakeview in June, Nassau County police said.
Marshall Thomas, 18, of 35 Elizabeth Ave., was arrested after being located on Woodfield Road in Lakeview at 8:40 p.m., police said in a Thursday morning news release.
In addition to the attempted murder charge, he was charged with first-degree criminal use of a firearm, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, first-degree reckless endangerment, fourth-degree criminal mischief, fourth-degree possession of a dangerous weapon and false personation, police said.
He is scheduled for arraignment Thursday in First District Court in Hempstead.
Thomas is the second man arrested in connection with the shooting, which police said occurred on June 8 on Bee Gee Court. Andre Walker, 23, of 62 Angevine Ave., Hempstead, was arrested on July 5, charged with second-degree attempted murder and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He is being held without bail and is due in court Aug. 28.
Police said Walker drove the getaway car. They also said he was in possession of a gravity knife when he was arrested.
Police said that just after 5 p.m. on June 8 Thomas approached the 29-year-old victim, said "Give it up," then pulled out a .40-caliber handgun, pointed it at the victim and fired it "numerous times."
The victim was struck in the hand and neck, police said.
Thomas then fled to the waiting getaway car, police said.
The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The status of his recovery was not immediately known.
