Hempstead teen held in fatal stabbing
A teenager accused of fatally stabbing an older teenager on Friday night in Hempstead Village was arrested Saturday, Nassau County police said.
The slaying happened near Sealey Avenue about 6:44 p.m., police said.
The 19-year-old victim, Omar Vasquez of Hempstead, was declared dead at 7:45 that night at a hospital, police said.
At 8:30 a.m. Saturday, police arrested the younger teenager, Slevin Cruz-Canales, 16, of 20 Sealey Ave., Hempstead, on a second-degree murder charge. He's to be arraigned today at First District Court in the village.
