Hempstead Town breaks ground on new dog park

Hempstead Town Supervisor Anthony Santino, Councilman Anthony D’Esposito, Town Clerk Nasrin Ahmad, Receiver of Taxes Don Clavin and future canine dog park users broke ground Thursday on a new dog park, which will soon be open to all town residents.

“Dog parks are an excellent way for both canines and their owners to socialize and exercise right here in America’s largest township,” Santino said in a news release. “In just a few short months, the town will unveil a beautiful, vibrant dog park for the enjoyment of the entire Town of Hempstead community. Indeed, Newbridge Road Park is ‘going to the dogs.’ ”

The dog park will be a total of 14,025 square feet, encompassing separate small- and large-dog areas, with a chain-link fence around the perimeter of the facility.

“The Newbridge Road Dog Park is a great option for dog owners who may not have a large backyard in which their pets can play,” D’Esposito said.

The dog park will be on the south end of the park.
