Hempstead Town holding 'Pitbulls & Pussycats' adoption event

Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray announced the town's "Pitbulls & Pussycats" adoption event Saturday at its animal shelter.

The shelter will feature a "Picture This" activity, where prospective pet adopters can have their photos taken with a shelter pet to determine if they can "picture" a new Best Furry Friend as a family member. Adoptions are free during this event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the shelter. Photos with BFFs will take place from 10 a.m. through 2 p.m.

"We encourage all residents to stop by and take photos with their own pet or a cuddly cat or dog that needs a home," said Murray.

There's no charge for spaying/neutering, rabies vaccinations, microchipping and testing for feline AIDS/leukemia.

Residents who are fostering a dog or cat will be talking about the benefits of fostering and offering tips on how to help pets become more sociable. In addition, many neighbors who adopted from the Town Animal Shelter will bring their pets for the "alumni" segment, proving that shelter animals make great household pets. And, the shelter's behaviorist will be providing one-on-one training demonstrations. Lastly, residents can enjoy some tasty holiday beverages, partake in raffles, and win prizes.
