Hempstead Turnpike reopens after crash

An accident involving a fire truck and another vehicle forced the temporary closing of all lanes of Hempstead Turnpike at Belmont Boulevard in Elmont early Tuesday afternoon, Nassau County police said.

A department spokeswoman said the accident occurred at 3:28 p.m.; by 4:40 p.m. all lanes had been reopened. It was not known whether there were any injuries or whether the fire truck was responding to an emergency at the time.
