Hempstead Turnpike’s eastbound lanes in East Meadow were closed for several hours Saturday after a single-vehicle crash took down a utility pole, police said.
Around 5:25 a.m., a sedan struck the pole in front of a Home Depot at 2000 Hempstead Tpke., Nassau County police said. A police spokesman said at about 1 p.m. that the lanes had reopened.
A photo from the scene showed the vehicle with extensive front-end damage and a shattered windshield.
A police spokesman did not have information on the extent of the injuries of the driver, a woman, but said they were not believed to be serious.
