Hempstead Village fire fought by 7 departments, officials say

Firefighters from seven Nassau County fire departments battled a blaze that gutted an apparently vacant home in Hempstead on Thursday night, as crowds of onlookers watched the scene unfold from nearby Kennedy Memorial Park.
Hempstead Village police said the fire at the home on Greenwich Street was reported in a 911 call at 8:08 p.m.
Nassau fire officials said that in addition to Hempstead, firefighters from West Hempstead, South Hempstead, Lakeview, Roosevelt, Uniondale and Rockville Centre responded to the scene and battled the blaze.
Photos from the scene show flames leaping skyward from the upper story of the two-story structure with boarded-up windows.
Officials said there were no reported injuries.
