An occupant of a Herricks home was hospitalized following a fire Wednesday evening at the Foch Boulevard residence, officials said.

The Garden City Fire Department responded to a 5:50 p.m. alarm regarding a fire at the two-story home, said Michael Mennella, captain of the Nassau County fire marshal’s hazardous materials response division, in a news release.

When Nassau County police responded to the scene, officers observed "a heavy smoke condition and flames emanating from the home," according to a department news release.

The occupant suffered smoke inhalation and a "minor burn injury," according to Mennella. They were transported to a hospital for treatment.

The fire was deemed under control after a half hour, Mennella said. About 75 firefighters, including those from departments in Albertson, Manhasset-Lakeville, Mineola, New Hyde Park, South Floral Park and Williston Park, responded to the scene.

The Nassau fire marshal and police arson/bomb squad are investigating the cause of the fire, officials said.
