A driver who was being pulled over crashed into a Hicksville home's front steps and fled as the car went up in flames early Saturday morning, officials said.

Hicksville firefighters quickly doused the Nissan sedan fire about 3:15 a.m. on the Bay Avenue house's front lawn, First Assistant Chief Gary Lewis said.

The car had crashed into the home's front steps but did not damage them and never hit the house itself, Lewis said.

The fire was extinguished in about a minute, Lewis said. He said the driver was not at the scene.

A Nassau County police spokeswoman said officers had been trying to pull the sedan over for vehicle and traffic law violations. She said no summons was issued and no arrest was made. She did not have any information about the driver.
