A masked gunman robbed a Hicksville 7-Eleven store early Thursday, taking 20 packs of cigarettes and an unspecified amount of cash, Nassau County police said.

The gunman, dressed in all black, with a hooded jacket and face mask, showed a silver handgun when he entered the store at 384 W. John St. at about 12:25 a.m., police said.

The clerk, a man, 37, complied with the robber's demand for money from the register, placing an unspecified amount of cash into a red backpack, police said.

The clerk also put about 20 packs of Newport cigarettes into the backpack.

The gunman then ran off in an unknown direction.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-8477. All information will be kept confidential.
