Three firefighters were hospitalized for minor injuries suffered while battling an overnight fire early Wednesday that badly damaged a private home on King Street in Hicksville, fire officials said.
A 61-year-old man who lived in the house escaped without injury, Nassau County police said.
The fire in the ranch-style home just off Queen Street was reported at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nassau fire officials said.
The injured firefighters were taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, the county’s assistant chief fire marshal, Michael F. Uttaro, said.
The interior of the home was cluttered and it took 90 minutes for the Hicksville Fire Department, with the help of several neighboring departments, to bring the fire under control, fire officials said.
The cause of the fire has not been determined, but it was not suspicious, Uttaro said.
