A Hicksville man kicked down a holding-cell door at the Eighth Precinct station house Tuesday, injuring a police officer, Nassau County police said.

Police responded to a call for a disturbance at a Mallard Road home in Levittown, and when they arrived they found Michael Goettelman, 39, breaking and damaging items inside the home and holding a knife, according to a news release.

Police said they arrested Goettelman, of 20 Picture Lane, and took him to the precinct for processing.

While in the holding cell, Goettelman repeatedly kicked on the door, causing it to break open and strike a police officer, the release said.

The officer was released from a hospital after being treated for a cut that required stitches, police said.

Goettelman was taken to a hospital for observation and will be scheduled for arraignment at a later date, police said.

He is charged with assault on a police officer, burglary, criminal mischief and menacing, police said.
