The southbound lanes of South Broadway in Hicksville reopened Friday afternoon after power lines came down and a transformer crashed into the street, spilling oil, officials said.
“It appears that a truck hit one of our poles, bringing down the wires, equipment and two other poles,” a PSEG spokesman said by telephone.
The southbound lanes were closed at 12:15 a.m. at Townsend Lane, Nassau County police said.
About 1,400 customers lost electrical power, a PSEG Long Island spokeswoman said Friday morning, and power was restored to all but five of them by 2:40 a.m. By the late afternoon, two were listed on the utility’s outage map.
“The repairs finished around 2 p.m. One building will require an electrician to make repairs to their service before it can be restored,” a PSEG spokesman said Friday afternoon.
