A Queens man was arrested after a car crash in a Valley Stream neighborhood ended a high-speed chase on Ocean Avenue Wednesday morning.

State Police said a trooper tried to pull over a car driven by Kennon Knight, 24, of Laurelton, after the black Acura speeding in the eastbound Southern State Parkway near Franklin Avenue around 10:30 a.m. When the trooper attempted the traffic stop, police said, the driver kept speeding and left the parkway at Hempstead Avenue, Exit 17S.

Police said, Knight stopped at a red light on Hempstead Avenue and made motions to the trooper - whose cruiser had siren and lights going - that he would pull over. However, police said Knight then drove through the red light and headed south on Ocean Avenue.

Police said Knight went through several red lights at a high rate of speed before crashing at the intersection of Merrick Road and Central Avenue.

After the crash, Knight jumped from the car and ran. He was apprehended at Stingham Avenue a short time later with the help of Malverne police.

Knight is charged with reckless endangerment, possession of marijuana, fleeing police in a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident, resisting arrest and speeding.
