Hofstra students victims of home invasion
Three men burst into a Hempstead home with masks and a gun, and took a laptop computer and two cell phones, Hempstead Village police said.
The victims, all Hofstra University students, were not injured.
After someone knocked on the door at 2:45 a.m. Friday, the residents at the Kernochan Avenue home opened the door. The three masked men rushed inside the home; one had a silver-colored handgun, police said.
"They told the victims, 'We're looking for somebody, but it's not you,' " Lt. Francis McNamee of the Hempstead Police Department said. Before they left, they took the items, police said.
Hofstra University public safety sent out a security alert to tell students about the incident, and asked them to "please remember to lock your doors and secure your valuables at all times," a university official said.
