Hunter rescued after boat goes missing
A man duck hunting with his dog on a marsh in Swift Creek in East Rockaway had to be rescued Monday afternoon after police said he returned to the place where he had moored his boat - and found it gone.
Nassau County police said it was not immediately clear if the boat had been stolen or if it simply had not been secured properly and drifted away.
The hunter, whose identity has not been released, and his dog were both uninjured.
"The guy was duck hunting on the marsh with his dog," a police spokeswoman said. "He went back to get his boat. He comes back, it's gone."
Police said the man had a cell phone and called 911. The call was reported at 1:18 p.m., according to police.
An investigation was launched into what happened to the boat, police said. The site is just south of Bay Park.
