Nassau police identified Wednesday the two people killed in a Bellmore traffic collision between a Mack truck and a passenger vehicle this week.

Cipriano Perez, 47, of North Bellmore, was the driver of the 2002 Hyundai Accent, and Telvina Zavala, 28, of Hempstead, was the front seat passenger in the Tuesday crash.

The sole survivor from the Hyundai, a 31-year-old rear seat passenger from Westbury, was hospitalized with nonlife threatening injuries and was reported in stable condition, police said.

The 47-year-old operator of the 1998 "front loading" Mack truck had minor arm pain, police said, but refused medical attention at the scene.

Det. Lt. John Azzata, Nassau Homicide Squad commander, said after the accident Tuesday, "We don't have any indication, as of right now, that there's any criminality involved in this . . . Unfortunately we do have two deaths."

The Hyundai Accent was traveling east when it collided with the northbound truck at the intersection of Newbridge Road and Camp Avenue at 11:20 a.m., police said.

Zavala was pronounced dead at the scene, and Perez was pronounced dead at a hospital, police said.

The garbage truck, with a mechanism on its front that hoists and empties trash containers into a rear loader, is owned by Jamaica Ash Rubbish & Removal Co. of Westbury.

Both vehicles were impounded for brake and safety inspections.
