Police are looking for the driver of a silver car that they said struck an 80-year-old woman last week in Levittown, injuring her -- and driving off.

The hit-and-run occurred Thursday on Stirrup Lane at about 7:15 a.m., Nassau County police said. Police said the victim, who was taking out the trash when she was struck, sustained bruising, as well as injuries to her shoulder and hip.

She was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Police described the vehicle that struck the victim only as "a silver car" and said it was traveling west on Stirrup when it hit the woman.

It was last seen fleeing west on Stirrup, police said.

Police ask anyone with information about the hit-and-run to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
