Island Trees school district
VOTING
Noon to 9 p.m. at Michael F. Stokes Elementary School.
THE BUDGET
The district proposes a $60,790,427 budget for 2015-16, a 0.82 percent increase from the current $60,294,338. The local tax levy would rise 1.6 percent, from $41,319,615 to $41,981,799. The increase is within the state's tax-cap limit of 1.6 percent, so a simple majority vote will be needed to approve the budget.
The dollar amount of the school taxes paid on the average single-family home would rise 1.41 percent, from $6,158 to $6,245. The budget estimates teacher salary increases, subject to negotiations. It adds funding for three English as a Second Language teacher positions, a technology position, part-time math and music teachers and 10 assistant coach positions.
