Jamaica man charged with murder in Elmont slaying
Nassau and federal authorities tracked down a Queens man in Los Angeles and charged him with murder in connection with a fatal shooting in Elmont last year.
Sandino Campbell, 27, of the Jamaica section of Queens, was charged with second-degree murder in the May 16, 2009, death of Galy Fortune, 47.
Shortly after 4 a.m., Fortune, of Valley Stream, was found lying on the sidewalk outside the Moments Bar on Elmont Road with a gunshot wound to his lower back, Nassau police said. He was taken to North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.
Campbell, who was brought to Nassau on a warrant Saturday, is scheduled to be arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead, according to a Nassau police news release.
