Police respond to the scene of a fatal accident on the eastbound Long Island Expressway between exits 39 and 40 on Thursday morning, Dec. 17, 2015. Credit: Jim Staubitser

A 21-year-old Plainview man was killed early Thursday morning when his 1997 Toyota sedan struck a tractor trailer parked on the shoulder of the Long Island Expressway between eastbound Exits 39 and 40 in Old Westbury.

James Rosentel was pronounced dead at the scene and was taken directly to the Nassau County medical examiner’s office, police said. The crash took place at 5:06 a.m.

A preliminary investigation showed no signs of criminality, police said.

No one else was hurt in the crash.

Police say the crash remains under investigation.
