Cops: Men targeted in shooting face gun charges
Two Hempstead men were arrested Tuesday, charged with weapons possession after an investigation of a shooting late last month.
One of the defendants was shot, while the other was shot at, Nassau County police said.
Police are still seeking the shooter or shooters.
Jason Ambrose, 21, of 111 Wellington St., and Todd Davis, 21, of 140 Weir St., were each charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Police said that Davis was also charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
At arraignment Wednesday in First District Court in Hempstead, Ambrose was ordered held on $25,000 bond or bail, while Davis was ordered held on $40,000 bond or bail. Both men remained in custody Wednesday afternoon and were due to return to court on Friday.
Police said the shooting occurred on Stewart Avenue in Hempstead at about 3:40 p.m. on Sept. 28. The two men, Ambrose and Davis, were in a 2007 Hyundai when police said gunshots were fired from a dark-colored vehicle, possibly green or black, traveling in the opposite direction. Police would not say whether the shooting is believed to be gang-related.
Police said Ambrose was struck once in the upper chest, while Davis was unharmed.
Ambrose drove to a hospital for treatment and his vehicle was impounded. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a loaded .38-caliber revolver, police said, prompting the arrests.
Police said the investigation is continuing.
