Jericho Turnpike reopens after Burger King fire, officials say

Authorities are investigating the cause of a fire Saturday at a Burger King in Syosset that closed a portion of Jericho Turnpike in both directions for nearly two hours, a fire official said.
There were no injuries.
Syosset Fire Department spokesman Jack Lord said the blaze started about 9:55 a.m. Saturday and that everyone had been evacuated from the building when firefighters arrived.
Lord said flames and smoke could be seen coming out of the building upon arrival.
Police said Jericho Turnpike had to be closed to traffic between Jackson Avenue and Underhill Boulevard to allow firefighters to battle the blaze.
Lord said the fire was declared under control at 10:16 a.m. and police said the road reopened at 11:35 a.m.
No other information was immediately available.
Lord said fire departments from Hicksville, Jericho, Plainview and Westbury helped fight the blaze but there was “significant damage” to the kitchen. He said the fire spread to the roof and ceiling through the ductwork that is used an exhaust for the cooking equipment.
