A U.S. Postal Service worker was arrested after he sold marijuana from his mail truck in the Merrick office's parking lot, Nassau County police said Thursday.

Jimmy Henry, 29, of Freeport, a post office employee, is charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and criminal sale of marijuana after police said they saw him make a sale in the parking lot of the Merrick Post Office, at 2020 Merrick Rd., about 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Henry, of 555 S. Bayview Ave., and Jennie Pappas, 24 -- who police say purchased the marijuana -- were issued appearance tickets.

Pappas, of Wantagh, is charged with unlawful possession of marijuana.

They are scheduled to appear April 23 at First District Court in Hempstead, police said.

A spokeswoman for the U.S. Postal Service Office of the Inspector General said her agency was following up on the police report. However, the spokeswoman, London Mulcahy, the agency's public information officer, said privacy law prohibited her from saying more.

Another Postal Service spokeswoman, also citing privacy law, could not provide information on Henry's work status. But she said he was hired April 22, 2013, as a city carrier assistant, a position that supplements city carriersit's a specific position title.

According to a news release, Pappas met Henry in the parking lot of the post office then Henry went into his postal truck and he "came out with a silver container and proceeded to hand it to" Pappas.

Pappas put the container in her pocket and went back to her vehicle, police said.

When officers approached her, they found a "silver grinder and a greenish brown substance believed to be marijuana on her lap," the release said.

Officers then approached Henry and found he had "a black bag containing a substance believed to be marijuana" in the truck.

Police said the officers contacted Postal Service authorities, who gave permission to search the truck.
