Jonathan Mack gets 25 years to life in killing of Isaac Andrews

A Uniondale man was sentenced Wednesday to 25 years to life in prison for fatally shooting an ex-roommate who interceded in a disagreement about money.

Jonathan Mack, 20, was found guilty by a jury in August on all counts, including second-degree murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, Nassau County prosecutors said.

Nassau County Court Judge George Peck sentenced Mack for fatally shooting Isaac Andrews, 34, on June 30, 2013, near a Uniondale church on Hill Street where parishioners were gathered for Sunday services.

"Jonathan Mack not only shot Isaac Andrews three times in broad daylight, with no regard for the safety of others who were celebrating Sunday church services nearby," Nassau District Attorney Kathleen Rice said in a news release, "but he also fired a fourth shot as his victim fell, ensuring that Mr. Andrews would never have the chance to speak out against his assailant."

Prosecutors said during the trial that Mack was arguing with a woman about money when victim Isaac Andrews, the woman's fiance, decided to step in. Mack then raised a gun and fired, hitting Andrews at least four times, including once in his back.

Andrews later was pronounced dead at a hospital, prosecutors said.

Mack was found in Florida and arrested on July 30, 2013, by the Nassau County Police Department and returned back to Long Island for prosecution.
