Howard Solomon, 72, of East Rockaway, was pronounced dead Saturday after his SUV hit a Jones Beach State Park welcome structure, police said. Credit: Jim Staubitser

An East Rockaway man has died after his sport utility vehicle hit the Jones Beach State Park welcome structure, State Police said Saturday.

Howard Solomon, 72, was traveling south on the Wantagh State Parkway in a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox at around 4:17 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the center median, police said.

There were no other occupants were in the Equinox at the time, police said.

State Police said they are still investigating what happened to Solomon. Anyone with information can call 631-756-3300.
