Relative steals jewelry from Merrick man's home, police say
More than $100,000 in jewelry was stolen from a Merrick man's home in a case that led to the arrest of one of the victim's relatives, Nassau police said.
Joseph Hermida, 47, of Port Jefferson, was caught on camera and arrested Monday at his workplace, police said. He is accused of taking the jewelry from the Frankel Boulevard home of the 75-year-old man between July 20 and Oct. 15, police said.
Hermida, of 30 Piedmont Dr., is expected to be arraigned Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead on third-degree burglary and second degree grand larceny.
Police did not release other details.
