Judge to Nassau County: Release OT slips
Acting Supreme Court Justice Denise Sher has ordered Nassau to release overtime slips requested by the correction officers' union, citing the state Freedom of Information Law's "broad standard of open disclosure."
The county said disclosing signatures would be an "unwarranted invasion of privacy." Sher ordered Social Security numbers but not signatures withheld.
Correction Officers Benevolent Association president John Jaronczyk said the records could explain an unusual spike in jail captains' overtime last fall, when County Executive Edward Mangano announced plans to demote corporals. County Attorney John Ciampoli said he's waiting to hear if the sheriff's office wishes to appeal. -- Celeste Hadrick
