Jury selection began Tuesday in the case of a Garden City woman accused of trying to hire a hit man to kill her husband.
Prosecutors say that last February, Williams, 43 and a mother of four, asked an acquaintance to refer her to a hit man to kill her husband, Peter. The two were involved in a bitter divorce.
The hit man Williams tried to hire turned out to be an undercover police officer, prosecutors say.
One potential juror who was excused Tuesday said in court that his son knew one of the Williams' children. A woman who was excused said that she knew Susan Williams' husband.
Prosecutors have said that not long before Williams tried to arrange a hit on her husband, he had filed for divorce after learning she had slept with his brother almost 20 years earlier.
Williams faces charges of second-degree criminal solicitation and second-degree conspiracy. If convicted, she could face a maximum of 8 1/3 to 25 years in prison.
Jury selection is expected to resume Wednesday morning.
