A fifth suspect in a brutal attack and robbery on a father and son in Lawrence last month was arrested Wednesday, police said.

The defendant is a juvenile, Nassau County police said. Two of those arrested were 16 years old, one 18, another 23.

The incident occurred May 30 on Lawrence Avenue.

Police said a 22-year-old man who had parked his car on the street was walking to a nearby deli when Christopher Abel-Bay, 16, of Clinton Avenue in Inwood, approached him and demanded he hand over his belongings. Abel-Bay was soon joined by the four other defendants, who police said immediately began to punch and kick the victim.

As the attack continued, the father of the robbery victim, 43, exited the deli -- and attempted to intervene.

Police said the five attackers then beat the father unconscious, leaving him with serious head injuries.

During the altercation, police said Abel-Bay went to the car belonging to the victim and stole his cellphone.

Another of the attackers, Marcell Haynes, 16, of Augustina Street in Inwood, struck the 22-year-old in the head with a broomstick, police said.

Abel-Bay was arrested May 31 and charged with two counts of first-degree robbery, two counts of third-degree robbery, second-degree gang assault, second-degree assault, third-degree and fourth-degree criminal mischief and two counts of fourth-degree possession of a dangerous weapon. He was arraigned June 1 in First District Court in Hempstead.

Haynes was arrested June 6 and charged with two counts of first-degree robbery, first-degree assault, second-degree gang assault, fourth-degree criminal mischief and fourth-degree possession of a dangerous weapon. He was arraigned on June 6.

Nicholas Belen, 18, of Alameda Drive in Inwood, was arrested May 31 and charged with two counts of first-degree robbery, second-degree gang assault, second-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal mischief and fourth-degree possession of a dangerous weapon.

He was arraigned June 1.

Ricky McDuffie, 23, also was arrested May 31, charged with first-degree robbery, two counts of second-degree assault, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and fourth-degree criminal mischief.

He was arraigned May 31.

Arraignment details were not immediately available Thursday on any of the four.

The fifth defendant was identified only as a juvenile and was arrested and charged as a juvenile, police said.

Police said they could not provide updated information on the condition of the 43-year-old victim, who they said was taken to a hospital by the Inwood Fire Department following the attack.
