Kidsday: Visitor brings LI farm to school
We had a special visitor to our class. Sam from Benner's Farm visited us for a special in-school program. We had a special colonial program where we were able to make tops, wool and pictures. First, he talked to us about his farm and who were the first settlers. He taught us how to make tops. We had a wooden circle with a hole in it. Then, we cut a pole, took a hammer, and got the pole in the hole. We also carded wool and spun it on a spindle. The class got to write with feathers. We used stamps with paint made of berries. We also ate Journey Cakes. The class had a lot of fun at the presentation.
But they don't have to come to you, you can go visit the farm. It is located on Long Island. Here is the info: Benner's Farm, 56 Gnarled Hollow Rd., East Setauket. Call 631-689-8172. The website, bennersfarm.com, has so many great things to tell you about their farm. Visit now because of all the special Halloween things going on.
