Residents and developers looking to build in the village of Lake Success will now face steeper costs, with a recent increase in permit fees and more.

The village board voted unanimously Monday night in favor of the increase in Planning and Building Department fees. The costs of residential and commercial building permit fees will double and the prices for applications reviewed by the planning department will also rise, depending on the type and size of structure.

Mayor Ron Cooper said the changes were being made in order to “keep in line with the other villages.”

Building Department Superintendent Robert Bonnie said that the new prices would place a greater share of the onus on commercial builders rather than homeowners, and have the “construction industry pay a fair share of what it takes to run a village.”

Commercial applicants will now pay $2,000 for a one year building permit, and $300 for any alterations or additions. Residents will pay $1,000 in permit fees for new dwellings. There are also price increases for demolition and plumbing permits.

The local law will take effect after being filed with the Secretary of State.
